Aswell as theoretical knowledge of wind, Peutz also has the necessary measuring facilities to find solutions to detected problems at an early stage. Using scale models, the following problems can be assessed in the wind tunnel:
Wind environment
Wind can cause discomfort and danger when certain wind velocities are exceeded during a great number of hours per year. Research into the occurrence of wind nuisance can be executed as early as the design stage of a development. If needed, measurements can be taken in the wind tunnel on a scale model of the designed building and its environment from every wind direction. Through the years, Peutz has gained ample expertise with these measurements.
The effects of wind shielding provisions or adjustments to a building can be assessed relatively straightforwardly in the wind tunnel.
Wind pressures
Often the structural engineer and the building services engineer need to know wind pressures that occur on the facades and the roof of a building. The structural engineer is interested in the wind forces on the building, the building services engineer is interested in the pressures and underpressures at the air intake apertures and outlet ducts of the mechanical ventilation. An insight in to the pressures can be gained by applying points of measurement to a scale model and carry out measurements in the wind tunnel. If so desired an extreme values analysis can take place which can be of importance to the structural engineer.
Dispersions of substances
Study of (harmfull) dispersion of substances
In planning industrial projects, roads, tunnels and parking garages, a study of the dispersion of substances can be necessary. Research into the dispersion of emitted substances can also be conducted with scale models in wind tunnel tests, using state of the art equipment and tracer techniques.
Concecutively, if necessary, ameliorative measures can be designed and assessed.
